NOTES: The Jays called up C Curtis Thigpen to fill Lyle Overbay’s spot on the roster. Toronto manager John Gibbons said Thigpen will likely start at first base on Wednesday. Gibbons added that the Jays will reevaluate their roster before heading to the West coast, which could mean Thigpen’s promotion may be temporary. … Overbay underwent surgery on his right hand on Tuesday in Baltimore, where the surgery was performed by the same doctor who operated on C Gregg Zaun’s hand. … Zaun will suit up for Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday ans is on schedule to join the Jays in L.A. and be activated from the DL on Friday. … RHP Shaun Marcum is still OK to start on Saturday after experiencing back tightness during his start on Sunday. … To clear room on the 40-man roster for Thigpen, Toronto transferred RHP John Thomson to the 60-day DL.

QUOTABLE: "He’s a Texan. That’s all that matters." – Gibbons, on Thigpen

It will be interesting to see what the Jays do with Thigpen when Zaun rejoins the club on Friday. Do they keep Phillips, Fasano and Thigpen up with the big club and send a guy like Howie Clark down? Or do they send Thigpen down keeping three veteran catchers on the roster knowing that Phillips can spell Stairs at first base?
I know I’d hate to see Fasano get sent down given that he seems to be the only catcher that can throw runners out.

What, exactly, is the Jays’ plan for John Thomson? First they sign him, then he (not surprisingly) goes on the DL, then he has a month-long rehab stint where he does quite well, and now they transfer him to the 60-day DL? He seemed to be ready to be back on the active roster.

Give him a start, not in Marcum or McGowan’s place, of course, but why not Ohka’s? Otherwise, why did the Jays sign him?

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!

I don’t care if that was against a bad bullpen that was still so exciting to watch. I’m glad i decided to not channel surf. V-dub was driving the ball tonight, Lind will hopefully pick up alot of confidence tonight and the jays offense won without a lot from Rios (bound to happen sooner or later)

I thought it was really eerie seeing Halladay pitch the way he did, it could be that he was pitching on adrenaline on his first start and probably felt ill-effects tonight. We’ll see, at any rate he deserved to get picked up by the offense and it was great to see.

The hitting was great in the ninth, but the neat part was that they were able to sit back and take the walks instead of swinging at bad pitches. This club can sure make things happen in a hurry when it wants to.
