Medical report
TORONTO — OK, so I’m a little behind here today. It’s the second inning and my blog isn’t live yet! Well, blame the Blue Jays and their game-time decisions. We had to wait a while to see if Vernon Wells (right ankle) and Alex Rios (back/groin) were able to play today.
Turns out they were considered go for launch and were still in Toronto’s lineup. Wells tweaked his ankle on a catch at the wall in the third inning on Monday and then when running across first base in the seventh. Rios said he tweaked his back during batting practice on Monday, but was feeling fine.
Also, it turns out that C Gregg Zaun won’t be activated on Wednesday after all. He’s going out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse, DHing on Wednesday, catching on Thursday with the hope of coming off the DL Friday. 2B Aaron Hill (concussion) is another 5-6 days away from a rehab stint and LF Shannon Stewart (right ankle) has a Grade 2 sprain and will be out at least three weeks.
Oh, and the Jays signed their top pick from Thursday’s Draft, first baseman David Cooper (17th overall). Toronto agreed to terms with 27 of its draftees on Tuesday. Cooper will head to Auburn for starters with a ticket to Dunedin soon to come if he hits as well as he’s supposed to.

What did you think of letting McGowan go the distance on such a high pitch count ? I liked it. I thought it was a gutsy move for John to pull. Had McGowan got scored on people would have probably ripped him for leaving him in that long. The only problem I had with it was that Ryan wasn’t warming in the ‘pen in case he was needed.
I agree with you it was a gutsy move considering McGowan’s pitch count and the fact Ryan wasn’t warming up . Carlson was warming up earlier so he could have used him
Congrats to Ryan for winning DHL man for the month of may . Nice to see a Jay’s pitcher get recognition .

I feel the same way, Ryan was very deserving of that, until those 2 blown saves he was untouchable all month. Its also nice to see that weve got some pop in the bats, it doesn’t seem like a regular occurrence when the jays knock one out of the park anymore.
So, now that we are officially in last place in the division (it took longer than some of us might have thought to get there) is it time to start talking realistically about how this team can re-tooled for next year? In particular, we need some young bats with teir 1 potential. Can we move Burnett and what can we expect in return? What about Litsch? Despite his record, I am not convinced that this guy is for real. What could a young pitcher with an impressive record get us? What about moving bats? Rolen would be a valuable addition to any team, but especially an NL team. What about sending our 1st baseman back to the NL? Any ideas?
While I don’t like or dislike John as a manager I have to say that sitting Rolen, Rios and Barajas against Felix Hernendez was very peculier. Rios as it turns out was injured but to then sit Rolen and Barajas with an off day tomorrow is confusing. I understand the need to give guys a day off but not before an ACTUAl off day and not numerous players at the same time.
I don’t think we should give up yet…We might be in last place but there is still alot of games left. However I do believe that Burnett should be traded near the trade deadline (especially if we are nowhere close to the race)…I think that Ryan has the ability to rebound from the blown saves but I hope that he hasn’t tweaked anything either…Is it just me or are the Jays having an unusually large amount of injuries again?
It seems like the injuries have hit the team again. It’s very unfortunate because it allows them to have an excuse which I don’t think they should have. I can handle one year of it but J.P. uses it again this year then I for one think he should be let go. I agree with Harry in the way that I feel that we shouldn’t give up hope yet. They are close to the teams that are expected to contend in the wild card race and Tampa looks as if it’s ready to hit a bit of a skid. Burnett should be moved only if the Jays are out of it come the deadline.
Jordan, do you have any info or updates on Robinzon Diaz? He has been out over a month now, just curious if he’s due to get of the DL soon. The reason I ask is in Blair’s latest blog he makes a rather cryptic remark to the effect of “(if) Robinzon Diaz gets back”. Is Diaz’s injury that serious?
We need a LF that can hit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not just a singles hitter (Johnson, Stewart type) we need a guy with cleanup potential!!! That is all I see us missing, that and **** that can also hit.
