Zaun upset, would welcome trade

TORONTO — Upset over his diminished playing time this season, Blue Jays catcher Gregg Zaun told MLB.com on Tuesday that he would welcome a trade out of Toronto. The Marlins, who Zaun played for from 1996-98, were recently linked to the catcher in rumors.

“Trades are a part of baseball,” Zaun said. “Things haven’t worked out the way I planned them to this year here in Toronto. Getting an opportunity to play on a regular basis for a pennant contender, or going back to a place that I’m familiar with, it would probably be a good thing.”

Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi confirmed that he’s talked to the Marlins, as well as the Royals, about Zaun, but was quick to point out that there is little to no interest for the 37-year-old catcher.

“We’re aware that Zaunie is unhappy,” Ricciardi said. “We wish he wouldn’t go through the media with it. We wish he would come to us, especially knowing we have a good relationship. Unfortunately, right now, there are no takers for him. If there are, we’ll definitely oblige him.

“I think we’ve been a little bit more proactive than maybe Zaunie thinks,” he continued. “Part of making a trade is someone has to want you. Right now, there’s no one that has expressed an interest in him. That’s where we’re at.”

Hineski is a pice of crap he robbed Toronto and now he gets a bad call from the umpires and thinks he is somebody that is one player I hate I hope he gets hurt and never plays again. If I sound mean today sorry but I hate this player.

If Zaun wants out release him and bring up Dias who needs a whiner on the team, He gets paid a lot of money to sit on the bench.

Someone really needs to take JP aside and teach him how to deal with the fan base and press. Two-three days ago, he hadn’t made any calls at all, and now he’s calling the world. He really needs to keep his mouth shut so he doesn’t consistently put his foot in it and look like the fool he is.

I expect what happened with Miami and KC is they inquired on Barajas, and JP tried to push Zaun. He probably took Zaun aside and told him either he or Barajas were about to be traded and Zaun took it public to get out of here and on to a contending team for the last season of his career.
Of course Zaun has also forgot the Jays paid him 7.25 million over two years, which is probably more money than he made for the balance of his career. Nice payback.

The good news is Diaz kills the ball (over .350) against Lhanders and Barajas likes rhanders, so if we cant trade Barajas as well, at least we have a good l/r combo going.

Lind looks at the ball I wonder if it’s fair DUH he should have been on first base. This is one game we will not win and tomorow will be another one, say goodbye to the wild card, But it might be a good thing if we finish under 500 maybe they will let JP go.

Really…did they say Tiexera is gonna sign long term with them? what are they gonna do with Casey Kotchman? and it makes sense the angels are in the playoff hunt? what did the angels give up for him (i am sure it was more than overbays worth)?

I was watching the game on gameday today and i just noticed that halladay’s fastbll breaks more than Garza’s slider.
    Halladay Fastball = 8.5″
    Garza Slider = 8.1″

That is amazing…a truly top tier pitcher.

Just read it…they gave up Casey Kotchman and Marek…makes sense but i would have tought that Angels would have kept Kotchmand (because he is only 25 and is doing pretty good) but apparently not.

Now i just feel that the JAYS COULD HAVE EASILY GOTTEN HIM. I was ready to give up Overbay Litsch and even Tallet (I thought they would’ve asked for someone like Lind’s caliber but apparently they didn’t). LA definately comes out on top of this one. STUPID J.P.

I think they would have jumped at my suggestion of Overbay and Tallet. We definately missed an opportunity. Marek is only a AA relief pitcher.

I still think Milwaukee would trade Escobar and Gamel for Ryan and either Tallet or Carlson; but JP has to make the call.

NO longer Tallet, it has to be Carlson who is even better than Tallet, i am not sure about Overbay and Tallet, because Overbay is not old and much worse than Kotchman but they might have…it would have definately been close.

Lets see JP is now making calls to other managers…lets hope for something.

We need to win this game, Boston, Minnesota and NY are both loosing. We could move a game up on all of them if we win.

I don’t want to see Halladay go but I would not blame him if he asked to be traded the Blue Jays will never contend again,The GM is no good ,Just look at the Thomas deal and the trade for Rolen for Glaus and Overbay is a pig, To many poor players on this team and we won’t be any better next year nouthing to cheer for.

When LA put Tiexiera in that lineup, they are going to be tough to beat. With Guerrero, Hunter and Tiexiera. Speed at the top of the lineup and power 3 through 5. Ouch

  13. goodluckdoc

Oh i agree with you, Figgins, Willis (do they still have him there) and then the power mongers with some speed, hunter and tiexiera can still run a bit, then anderson, rivera and …. they are i daresay much better than the yanks and probably better than the SOX.

With K-ROD, Lackey, Saunders, Santana their starting rotation is SOLID and we just talked about their lineup.

I’d say this trade might put LA over the top. They are real solid on everything. Speed, defense, power, pitching. THey’re much stronger than Boston, and rival NY.

Both Halliday and MArcum have been let down by this offense
