Zaun Fire

TORONTO — With the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 13th on Saturday night, Gregg Zaun strolled to the plate with the game on the line and the joke up here in the pressbox was that the catcher should pull a Babe Ruth and call his shot.

After all, he had done it before.

Then, as if to mock our joking, Zaun crushed the first pitch he saw from Rays closer Troy Percival and sent it over the right-field fence for a walk-off grand slam. After the game, Zaun was in a great mood, joking with reporters. One of us scribes chimed in: “Did we see you call your shot?”

“No, no, no,” Zaun said laughing. “Don’t get anything stirred up over there. Troy throws awfully hard. I don’t want to wear one in the earflap.”

Jordan,

No Bears prediction?

Colts 24

Bears 13

So, 15-8, your pitching is disappointing. I thought our win here, would put you 1.5 back. What’s wrong?

Woops-I guess 2 back.

I have excruciatingly low expectations for my Bears this year. That way, if they have anything resembling a successful season, I’ll be ecstatic. So I expect the Bears to get crushed tonight.

I’m surprised TB didn’t take Garza out, erroring on the side of caution, after he got hit.

David Purcey is someone TB don’t want to face again this year. In two starts against TB, Purcey’s gone 16 innings, given up 1 run, and struck out 18.

Let’s hope the pen brings this one home for a win.

Jordan,

You always have Michigan State too root for. Great way too look at the Bears. Expect the worst and hope for the best. I am guessing the Bears will have a double digit loss season. Orton or Grossman, it doesn’t matter. Bring back Doug Flutie!! lol.

Had to go to Regina for my wifes birthday brunch and for sure I missed one of the best games of the year,So sad.How that kid must have pitched,8 players faned on the divison leader by a pitcher I had my doubts about a month ago,Now for sure I eat crow.YUM YUM.

garry,
I had my doubts about him too. I don’t doubt him no more. Seems like we can pull a solid SP out of anywhere. Purcey’s breaking stuff was nasty, it was a depleted Tampa lineup, but its nice to see another team have hitting troubles. The Jays have sure had their share.

Welikeroy..read your rant not bad, makes for good reading. Also your right the Jays seem to be able to pull starting pitchen out of their hat,It makes me happy.

Garza has given the Jays fits, but this time around young Purcey showed him what it felt like to lose a close one, a real nail biter.

It seems like I repeat myself,like I repeat myself,like I repeat myself.LOL.

Hey, if the Jays sweep the White Sox, then sweep the Red Sox, they would have swept four first place teams in a row, assuming that the Red Sox pass the Rays with their next series. I wonder if that has ever happened in MLB history?

Unlikely that it’ll happen this time, but it’d be pretty cool.

rene.
If the Jays pull that feat off get ready for October

Garry

I think you need that repeat thing checked. lol
