Rod hamstrung

BOSTON — Blue Jays catcher Rod Barajas is sitting out for Game 2 of this double dip in Beantown, thanks to a sore left hamstring. There’s a chance that Barajas will also be sidelined for tomorrow’s Fenway finale against the Red Sox.

So, that means Gregg “Grand Slam” Zaun is in the starting lineup tonight and will likely be behind the plate to catch Doc Halladay manana. Blue Jays manager Cito Gaston said Barajas has been bothered by the tight hammy lately, and he aggravated the injury when running from first to third during the sixth in Game 1.

“I’m day to day,” Barajas said between games. “We’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”

Also of note, my Michigan State Spartans were victorious today. So the competition was a tad on the weaker side — big deal. Next week it’s on to Notre Dame, and Zaunie — a big Irish fan — was already talking some smack this morning.

I think if Litsch can limit to 3 or 4 runs through 6 or 7 innings, they’ll have a good chance. I’ve got a feeling that the Jays are gonna get to Bartolo tonight.

Now that’s how you welcome back someone to MLB. Now if Jessie settles in and we get 6- 7 innings from him, it will be a great day.

Why Cito didn’t have somebody in his bullpen going into that inning is beyond me. If you say you are going to have a strict pitch count, stick to it. I was very disappointed in that decision to leave Litsch in so long, the last thing we need is for a young pitcher to blow out his arm.

Nice slide by Big Papi to disrupt the double play. I wouldn’t say it was a clean play by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a good, hard baseball play that saved his team from a double play and helped them score a run. Gotta give the big man credit when he runs hard.

Notre Dame will probably have a tougher time with Michigan State than Michigan, man the Wolverines are terrible. Rich-Rod needs a quicker QB to run the spread. Going to love watching Jevon Ringer on NBC, hes good.

Tough game again. I liked Litsch in the 2nd inning try to block the plate on Ellsbury on his wild pitch. That is tough move for a pitcher to make. Too bad Litsch wasn’t that sharpe, or Downs for that matter.
