Wells out one month with hamstring strain

Blue Jays center fielder Vernon Wells is expected to be sidelined a month after straining his left hamstring on Monday at the Bobby Mattick Training Center. Wells was left Toronto’s complex to undergo an MRI exam to further evaluate the damage.

“Right now, preliminary, I’d say he’s going to miss four weeks,” Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said.

Wells had two stints on the disabled list last season, including one for the same hamstring last July. The 30-year-old center fielder finished the season batting .300 with 20 home runs and 78 RBIs, but he spent 52 games on the DL. He also fractured his left wrist in May of last season.

Crap, I thought Wells had worked out all winter to strengthen himself. Clearly as soon as he’s healthy, he needs to be dumped.

There is no way they are dumping Wells and his 20M contract. This is dissapointing, his body doesn’t look like its going to hold up over the long haul. I can see him being the most expensive DH in the game in a year or two. Hopefully this was just a little blip for this year, and is healthy the rest of the way, but these injuries are becoming quite frequent as he is into his 30’s.

You guys said it best, this is very disappointing news. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping that this is just a small hiccup on the way to a productive season.

    G. The wife says thanks.

If you or i get hurt at work we go on Comp. or insurance, So why is it that a team has to pay these players all that money, after all it’s just a job for them.

I think the team has insurance, but I’m not exactly sure how it works. If Wells keeps up like this the premium to cover his contract is gonna go through the roof.

Tell your wife, the next time you break her arm, to call me. lol
