Zaun to DL; Thigpen called up

OAKLAND — Curtis Thigpen arrived from Triple-A Syracuse today, looking quite dapper in a gray suit and sporting a shaggy hairdo that would make the Jonas Brothers proud. After Thigpen walked around to saying his hellos, Jays skip John Gibbons was asked what the reaction would’ve been had any players strolled in with that type of hairstyle back in his day.

“Nobody would’ve walked in with a haircut like that. So it’s a moot point,” Gibbons said, laughing heartily. “Maybe since he was coming to San Francisco, he figured he had to do something special.”

All kidding aside, the trendy Mr. Thigpen, whose look would’ve impressed the Star’s Cathal Kelly, was in the Jays’ clubhouse because catcher Gregg Zaun is on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right elbow. The injury’s not considered serious, but Toronto can’t go forward with only one catcher available.

So, for now, Rod Barajas is the No. 1 and Thig is the No. 2. Robinzon Diaz might’ve been called up, but he’s injured as well. Zaun said he’ll stay away from baseball stuff for the next few days, but he believes it shouldn’t take long to get back to full strength. He’s hoping to be ready to return on June 11 — his first day eligible.

Tough break to see Zaun go down. I guess the good news is that Rod is as hot as he’ll get all season, so if he is going to get a bulk load of starts now is as good a time as any.
I heard that The Dark Knight will set the stage for a 2 face appearance and judging from that trailer I saw today I think it will.

Hey Jordan, I read that the Angels won the right to host the 2010 All star game. Do you know if Toronto was close ?

Big Hurt is hurt and headed for the dl for some time. I bet no one here is too upset that we let him go now.

Just when the guy was getting hot too. I wasn’t upset with J.P. for letting him go. I understood why they wouldn’t want to pay him that kind of money next year. They take a big hit this year but it’s short term pain for long term gain I guess.

I love that the Jays are winning now and scoring alot of runs, but I still miss the long ball, especially from the guys who you count on hitting it like Rios, Hill, Overbay, and Wells (not in the lineup now, but when he was). But winning is the most important thing by far so I don’t care too much.

I completely agree with that. Rios in particular is someone whom i’d have expected 25 to 30 from this year. It’s not a big deal at all but it’s always fun to watch. Jays are up big as I type this. I am really happy with the way this month went. Who would have thought though that Jesse Litch would be 7-1 to start, assuming they hang on, which right now doesn’t seem to be that much of a stretch.

Rios was good for nothing today. I know we didn’t need him, but grounding into a double play 3 times???
