The 78th All-Star Game

SAN FRANCISCO — I’m sitting up in the upper deck behind the left-field foul pole in the auxiliary pressbox here at AT&T Park, gearing up for the first pitch of this year’s All-Star Game. I snapped some photos during the pregame activities that I’ll post on here later. Until then, here’s tonight’s lineups:

The nine wins in a row mark the second-longest winning streak in ASG history. … Bonds hasn’t hit second in a regular season game since 1987. … Bonds will start on Tuesday at the age of 42 years, 11 months, 16 days, the oldest player to ever start an All-Star Game. Previous oldest position player was Pete Rose at 41 years, two months, 32 days for the N.L. in 1982. The previous oldest overall was pitcher Roger Clemens at 41 years, 11 months, 9 days in 2004. … Overall, Bonds will be the 9th oldest All-Star at 42 years, 351 days and the oldest since Carlton Fisk was on the 1991 A.L. team at 43 years, 196 days, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. … Ivan Rodriguez will make his 12th start behind the plate in an All-Star Game tonight, the most starts ever for a catcher in All-Star history. … Russell Martin of the Dodgers will be the third native of Canada to ever start an All-Star Game when he takes his spot behind the plate tonight. He joins Larry Walker (1997-99) and Jason Bay (2006), who both started in the outfield for the National League.
