Litsch to DL, Murphy Recalled

The Jays placed Jesse Litsch (right forearm and elbow soreness) on the 15-day disabled list this afternoon and have recalled lefty Bill Murphy from Triple-A Las Vegas. Seeing as Murphy is a reliever, likely here to help the taxed bullpen, Toronto still needs a starter for Saturday.

One thing to note is that lefty prospect Brett Cecil’s next scheduled turn to pitch falls on Saturday. Just saying. Just got here to the Metrodome a little while ago, so we haven’t had a chance to talk with manager Cito Gaston.

UPDATE: For those following me on twitter (@MLBastian), this won’t be new, but Brian Tallet is slated to start on Saturday. Jays feel guys like Cecil and Brad Mills need more time.

More later…

Unfortunately, neither Cecil or Mill’s look like they are ready to step in and contribute. It is too bad that Clement did not hang around a little longer. However, I suppose he thought that he did not have what it would take to pitch at the Major league level. Is there anyone at AA that might be able to make the jump — even for a few games?

thanx, Jordy!!

Make sure and let us know ASAP whether it will be Mills (likely, IMO) or Cecil (possible because it’s his turn, as you noted) getting the call on Saturday….

I sure hope that Litsch is not on the DL for long. The Jays alreday have an inexperienced starting rotation, this will not help. Does not sound good though.
This could be a year of growing pains. If that is the case, I feel bad for Roy Holiday

Wouldn’t figure on a AA being the choice. It falls on lefty Marc Rzepczynski’s turn, and he has walked 8 in eight innings so far down there. I suppose the Fisher Cats could scratch (or limit) Fabio Castro tomorrow and give him a shot, but Mills “smells” the most likely to me.

That actually sounds better on Litsch than it could have been, assuming we’re hearing it all. I’d be surprised if they didn’t call up Cecil. There might be some promising kids in AA-it’s too early to tell and the cupboard is bare in AAA.

Tallet to start on Saturday.

Mills got roughed in AAA his first start. He also got hit pretty hard before Spring Training. I’ve been wanting to see Cecil pitch for quite sometime now.

I hope it is him. I know the Jays are concerned about stretching him out at this point, but 5 innings couldn’t hurt.
