*Lyle Overbay was a late scratch. Overbay suffered a left knee contusion on Friday and has been resting his leg since then. The Jays penciled him into the lineup, but Overbay wanted at least one more day off for recovery.

**Raul Chavez was initially penciled into the lineup, but was replaced at the last minute by Molina. Chavez said the switch was made because he has yet to catch lefty Marc Rzepczynski in a game. Zep is slated to start Tuesday night with Chavez behind the plate.

reed vs mccoy…. reed has over 2x the at bats this spring,
good speed, solid defense , .420 and can play 1st base. but , how many regular season career at bats do each have ? it’s a long season coming off the bench ….

  2. jbunk1

    mccoy-5 career at bats
    reed-1222 career at bats…..
i”ll take reed over mccoy off the bench in the bottom of the 8th all day long!!!

After an outing like today, how can they NOT put Eveland in the lineup? My prediction for what it’s worth? Marcum, Romero, Morrow, Eveland, Tallet. Valdez in the bullpen. Rzep still has options, so he and Cecil are first callups.

jbunk1-McCoy has more speed, better batting eye, more flexible and is on the 40 man roster-Reed on the other hand has been signed to a minor league contract, so we don’t risk losing him if he gets sent down, we would with McCoy.

And McCoy has performed better, although Reed has had a good spring, McCoy’s has been better.

Yerouttaheah – I agree with you 100% how can the brass ignore Eveland….has been pretty much lights out all spring…
and it wasn’t like he was facing all the “crappy” tigers today either. As much as I hate seeing Tallet in the rotation, he’s done a better job as a starter then zep has…send zep down for a month or so get him a little more seasoning.

Marcum, Romero, Morrow, Eveland, McGowan will hopefully be the rotation for most of the year, once they put Tallet back in the pen….and that’s a damn good rotation.

The funny thing is…if Doc were still in the rotation people would actually be writing articles about how nasty our rotation will be this year.

As for the McCoy vs Reed….I vote McCoy, he’s had Johnny Mac working with him on his foot work, if he can put some of Johnny Mac’s moves into motion on the field, he will be a great short stop for us until our cuban hopeful is ready for the show.

Some tough decisions to be made on both the starting rotation and the bullpen. If anyone thinks it’s tough this year wait a year or two, this quality problem is just starting.

  7. yerouttaheah

AMOF, in my position as armchair manager, I will waive A. Gonzales, since he and Johnny Mac are just about the same (edge to Johnny). That way, I have room for McCoy AND Reed on the 25. Then I will see if Mike could play himself past JMac and into a starting shortstop job. Imagine having 2 speedsters on the team! My head is just ‘a spinning!

  8. gsjays

I wouldn’t just give up Gonzales, but I would try to trade him. Put Reed in AAA, since he’s already on a minor league deal and bring him up when Gonzales is traded.
