PITCHING: RHP Shaun Marcum

NOTES: Marcum was making his first start since Sept. 30, 2006. … Still no word on whether or not 3B Troy Glaus (sore left foot) was headed to the DL. Toronto manager John Gibbons said Glaus was "making progress" since injuring his foot during Friday’s game. … Gibbons also indicated that whoever is called up to start on Tuesday would likely only be in the rotation for one start. … Gibbons cited the Rays’ lack of any lefties in the bullpen as the reason for having three left-handed hitters (Lind, Stairs and Overbay) in the first four slots of the lineup. Right fielder Alex Rios was just given the day off.

both pitchers have no-hitters right now this is getting pretty crazy

My question is not ‘why take Marcum out’ I understand bringing him out with a real good, feel good space.
My question is, ” With lefties hitting well over 300 against Frasor, and righties hitting 180 or so, why on earth did the Jays not simply walk Pena, the lefty, and go after Young ( i think it was) a righty who followed and stand a much better chance of getting him out and coming out of the inning with hope? At least then Stairs would have tied the game.

I really wish tho, that the Jays would play more small ball in tight situations. Much more fun, much more interesting, not so much pressure on the big hitters.
